Beschreibung Fundamental Optics: The Various Speeds of Light
In view of recent rapid advances in technology, one may be surprised to learn that at least two of the basic tenets of optics are over a thousand years old, namely the law of reflection and the law of reciprocity. This book serves to update existing knowledge about light with the help of new actual data derived from easily reproducible experiments. They form the basis of a new theory which interprets up-to-date, verifiable information according to the various speeds of the lights involved. Since light is in Space and requires Time for its Motion these terms are defined as the basis of the new observations detailed in the book. The second chapter furnishes a brief historical background, which is followed by chapters on optokinetics, dealing with the actual new laboratory data, and optokinematics, examining lights general motions in space.

Integrated Photonics: Fundamentals: : Lifante ~ All integrated optical components and devices make use of "waveguides", where light is confined by total internal reflection. The elements in such "photonic chip" are interconnected through waveguides, and also the integrated optics components themselves are fabricated using waveguide configuration, such as couplers, switches, modulators, multiplexors, amplifiers and lasers, etc.

Illumination Fundamentals - Lighting Research Center ~ Illumination Fundamentals 7 1. Light and Electromagnetic Radiation 1.1. What is Light? To the optical engineer, light is simply a very small part of the electromagnetic spectrum, sandwiched between ultraviolet and infrared radiation. The visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum extends fr om about 380 to about 780 nanometers
FUNDAMENTALS PHOTONICS Module 1 - SPIE ~ Fiber optics is an exciting field, and the demonstration exercises that follow are sure to kindle one’s interest in this fascinating area. 1. Demonstration of light guidance through optical fibers. Take a 2-meter length or so of optical fiber—preferably a large-diameter plastic optical fiber—and make perpendicular cuts at both the ends .

Fiber Optics: Understanding the Basics / Fiber Optics ~ Optical materials are characterized by their index of refraction, referred to as n. A material’s index of refraction is the ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum to the speed of light in the material. When a beam of light passes from one material to another with a different index of refraction, the beam is bent (or refracted) at the .

Physics Tutorial: The Cause of Refraction ~ The light wave not only changes directions at the boundary, it also speeds up or slows down and transforms into a wave with a larger or a shorter wavelength. The only time that a wave can be transmitted across a boundary, change its speed, and still not refract is when the light wave approaches the boundary in a direction that is perpendicular to it. As long as the light wave changes speed and .

Spectroscopic Ellipsometry: Principles and Applications ~ Spectroscopic ellipsometry has established its position as a high-precision optical-characterization technique — nevertheless, the principles of ellipsometry are often said to be difficult, partly due to the lack of proper knowledge for polarized light used as a probe in ellipsometry. The objective of this book is to provide a fundamental understanding of spectroscopic ellipsometry .
FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTONICS Module 1 ~ Optical fiber transmission uses wavelengths that are in the near-infrared portion of the spectrum, just above the visible, and thus undetectable to the unaided eye. Typical optical transmission wavelengths are 850 nm, 1310 nm, and 1550 nm. Both lasers and LEDs are used to transmit light through optical fiber. Lasers are usually used for 1310 .
Theory of Light - nightlase.au ~ NightLase Technologies Optics Tutorial. Theory of Light. Tutorial covers the fundamentals of light theory. What is light ? . The speed of light in a vacuum is a universal constant, about 300,000 km/s or 186,000 miles per second. The exact speed of light is: 299,792.458 km/s It takes approximately 8.3 min for light from the sun the reach the earth ( 150,000,000 / 300,000 / 60 = 8.3 ) Taking .
Speed of light - Wikipedia ~ The speed of light in vacuum, commonly denoted c, is a universal physical constant important in many areas of physics. Its exact value is defined as 299 792 458 metres per second (approximately 300 000 km/s, or 186 000 mi/s).It is exact because, by international agreement, a metre is defined as the length of the path travelled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1 ⁄ 299 792 458 second.
The Nature of Light: What is a Photon? Optical Science and ~ It explores the fundamental issues pertaining to light that still exist today. Gathering contributions from globally recognized specialists in electrodynamics and quantum optics, the book begins by clearly presenting the mainstream view of the nature of light and photons. It then provides a new and challenging scientific epistemology that explains how to overcome the prevailing paradoxes and .

Tests of special relativity - Wikipedia ~ Experiments paving the way to relativity. The predominant theory of light in the 19th century was that of the luminiferous aether, a stationary medium in which light propagates in a manner analogous to the way sound propagates through air. By analogy, it follows that the speed of light is constant in all directions in the aether and is independent of the velocity of the source.
Optical fiber - Wikipedia ~ Optical fiber is used as a medium for telecommunication and computer networking because it is flexible and can be bundled as cables. It is especially advantageous for long-distance communications, because infrared light propagates through the fiber with much lower attenuation compared to electricity in electrical cables. This allows long distances to be spanned with few repeaters.
